Do You Have a Business or a Hobby?

Do You Have a Business or a Hobby?
Let’s be real, most businesses start with something you love doing. Maybe it began as a side hustle or a passion project. But at some point, the question hits you: am I actually running a business... or am I treating it like a hobby?
It’s not always easy to tell. We can get so caught up in the parts we enjoy – serving clients, creating content, baking pies (yes, I’ve been there) – that we forget about the back-end structures that make a business sustainable. And without those systems in place? You’re setting yourself up for stress, stagnation, and burnout.
Here’s the truth: if you’re ignoring the systems, the strategy, and the financials, if you’re winging it, avoiding hard conversations, or making it up as you go, you’re likely operating a hobby.
Now, there’s no shame in that. But if you have a desire on your heart to truly grow, serve, and profit from your work, it’s time to make some shifts. That means treating your time like a business asset, being consistent with your calendar, hiring help where you’re in over your head, and yes, getting uncomfortable so you can grow.
And don’t buy the lie that you have to do it alone. I’ve done the “I’ll figure it all out myself” routine – and it cost me time, money, and joy. The most powerful decision I ever made in business? Saying yes to support. Getting coaching. Asking for help. And holding myself accountable like the CEO I truly wanted to be.
So let me ask you: are you serious about making your business work? Or are you playing small in disguise?
If you’re ready to move out of hobby mode and into the role of confident business owner, I’d love to support you. Let’s talk.
