How To Show Up 'Real' While Being Professional
By Christine McIver
What does it really mean to “be professional”? For years, I thought it meant keeping all my personal quirks in check. Staying polished. Playing it safe. But the truth is, that version of “professional” often left me feeling disconnected – from my clients, my team, and sometimes even from myself.
One of the most powerful things I’ve learned is that professionalism isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence. When you bring your full self into your business – your energy, your intuition, your passion, people feel it. They respond to it. And most importantly, they trust it.
Authenticity doesn’t mean you throw boundaries out the window. But it does mean you show up with clarity, honesty, and confidence – even when things are messy or uncertain. That’s what makes you magnetic. That’s what builds trust. When you’re willing to be real, people don’t have to wonder who they’re dealing with because they know.
And let’s not forget: you’re the CEO of your business. That means you set the tone for how things run. If you’re walking on eggshells trying to please or impress, that energy ripples through your whole operation. But when you stand tall in your truth, even when it’s a little uncomfortable, that ripple becomes a wave of confidence, alignment, and success.
So here’s my invitation: Let go of the performance. Let go of the rules that don’t serve you. And trust that who you are is more than enough. Your realness is your edge. Your professionalism is your delivery. Together, they’re unstoppable.
